The aerial combat series made its debut on the PSP with Ace Combat X: Skies of Deception. Players take command of the Gryphus Squadron, one of the last remaining air units defending the southeastern nation of Aurelia. Stationed at its sole operational airbase, the squadron is all that stands against the sudden invasion by the neighboring republic of Leasath, led by the ambitious Diego Gaspar Navarro in the year 2020. Leasath justifies its aggression by accusing Aurelia of interfering in its recent civil war.
The game offers a wide range of combat objectives and an even broader selection of aircraft, each with unique paint schemes and performance traits. By completing missions, players earn credits that can be used to unlock new parts and customize their planes in a deeply flexible campaign. This mode features branching mission paths that allow different routes to the final operation. Although there are 17 missions in total, the campaign can be finished in as few as ten, encouraging both replayability and speed.
Multiplayer is another major highlight, supporting up to four players in both cooperative and competitive modes. You can team up in two-player co-op against AI opponents or face off in versus matches across several modes—including Dogfight-Survival, Base Attack, Air Superiority, Beacon Battle, and Escort Mission.
