This remake of Final Fantasy II builds on the Game Boy Advance version, which itself was derived from the WonderSwan Color release, aligning closely with the re-released Final Fantasy for Game Boy Advance. It retains all the bonuses from the GBA edition, including the Soul of Rebirth content, while introducing upgraded visuals tailored for a 16:9 screen format, sharper and more readable text, and enhanced music and sound quality. The iconic CG opening from the PlayStation version has been reworked to match the 16:9 aspect ratio, and players can explore illustration galleries featuring Yoshitaka Amano’s artwork.
A new dungeon, dubbed the “Arcane Sanctuary,” introduces a unique “word memory system.” Depending on the word chosen, players face different enemies and a distinct gameplay experience. Like the GBA version, an unlockable bestiary and BGM music player add extra depth. The core gameplay and difficulty remain consistent with the Dawn of Souls release, preserving the challenge and mechanics of the original port.
