Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron continues the beloved Battlefront series as an exclusive title for the PlayStation Portable (PSP). Players once again choose to lead one of the galaxy’s great factions into war, fighting for the Rebel Alliance, the Galactic Empire, the Republic Clone Army, or the CIS Droid Army. Each side boasts a roster of iconic heroes and villains, from the light side’s Yoda, Obi-Wan, and Han Solo to the dark side’s Darth Vader, Boba Fett, and Darth Maul.

The game retains classic modes like Galactic Conquest, where you pick a side and battle for control of the galaxy. Winning a match on a planet allows your faction to choose the next world to invade, and the ultimate goal remains the same: conquer your enemy’s home planet before they can conquer yours.

Where Renegade Squadron truly carves its own path is in its Campaign mode. The story is told through the eyes of a Jedi recounting the untold history of the “Renegade Squadron”—an elite unit formed by Han Solo after the Battle of Yavin. You’ll experience this hidden chapter of the Rebellion firsthand, fighting alongside leaders like Han and Leia Organa. The narrative unfolds through stylish comic book-style panels with full voiceovers, and you progress by completing specific objectives in each mission.

This installment also introduces a major overhaul to the class system. Gone are the fixed soldier types; instead, players can now fully customize their troopers before battle, hand-picking their weapons and gear to create their perfect loadout. The chaos of ground combat is now joined by full-fledged space battles, letting you pilot legendary ships like the Millennium Falcon, TIE Fighters, and even Star Destroyers.

For multiplayer, the game supports online play for up to 16 players via Infrastructure mode and 8-player matches through ad-hoc local connections. A new in-game credit system lets you earn funds to purchase customized kits and build entirely new characters from the ground up, adding a deep layer of personalization to the galactic conflict.
