Step into the ring with WWE superstars and ECW legends in SmackDown vs. RAW 2008 featuring ECW on PSP.
The 2008 edition of SmackDown vs. Raw marked a significant evolution for the WWE games franchise. It was the first installment to fully embrace the extreme world of ECW, introducing popular stars like CM Punk, The Sandman, and Marcus Cor Von to the roster.
This iteration introduced several groundbreaking features, including a new struggle-based submission system, an expanded arsenal of weapons (including guitars), and a defining “Fighting Style” system. Players could assign their superstar a primary and secondary style—such as Brawler, High-Flyer, or Powerhouse—which fundamentally shaped their in-ring strategy. The game continued the celebrated “Legend” tradition with arenas like WrestleMania 23 and icons like The Undertaker and Ric Flair, though the available roster varied significantly depending on the platform.
The beloved Season and General Manager modes from previous games were overhauled and merged into a massive new experience called WWE 24/7 Mode (on PlayStation and Xbox 360). This mode offered unprecedented depth, allowing you to create a new superstar from scratch, guide an existing career, or take on the role of a manager. The Wii version featured a comparable mode called “Main Event,” though it did not include the management aspects.
A new Tournament mode offered challenges across multiple difficulty levels. The game was also a comprehensive collection of match types, featuring everything from Hell in a Cell and the Elimination Chamber to TLC and Iron Man matches. The Wii version, while more limited with five core match types and a reduced moveset, offered unique motion-controlled strikes and full integration of the console’s Mii characters.
A major differentiator was online multiplayer, a feature exclusive to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions. These platforms also boasted unique extras: the Xbox 360 allowed players to use their own custom music for superstar entrances, while the PS3 offered a innovative first-person perspective for witnessing the action.
