Valkyria Chronicles II continues the beloved tactical RPG series, picking up two years after the events of the Second European War. While a fragile peace has settled over the continent, the Gallian Republic now faces a new threat from within: a violent insurgency fueled by ethnic tensions and the devastating power of ragnite.
The story shifts from the front lines to the halls of the Lanseal Royal Military Academy. You step into the role of Avan Hardins, a young cadet who forms a new class to restore the academy’s tarnished reputation. Your mission is to lead, motivate, and strategically command a diverse group of student soldiers. What begins as routine training exercises and inter-class competitions quickly escalates into a desperate fight for survival when your school becomes the primary target of a ruthless rebel army.
The game retains the signature “BLiTZ” battle system that made the original a classic. You’ll alternate between a top-down tactical map to plan your moves and assign orders, and a third-person action perspective where you directly control each unit in real-time. Every action—from taking aim to seeking cover—drains a unit’s Action Points (AP), creating a tense and strategic balance between movement and combat. Success hinges on mastering each unit’s unique strengths and the rock-paper-scissors dynamic between classes.
New to this installment are more refined class-based abilities, deeper unit customization, and the ability to develop bonds between characters that unlock powerful new skills on the battlefield.
