Dynasty Warriors Vol. 2 is the second PSP title in the long-running series. It retells the epic story from Luo Guangzhong’s Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Players can choose to control an officer from the kingdoms of Wu, Wei, or Shu and participate in the most crucial battles of their respective storylines. The playable characters and their designs are inspired by Dynasty Warriors 5.

Gameplay

The game’s maps are split into smaller sections, including allied camps, enemy strongholds, and open fields. To clear an area, you must defeat all enemy officers and troops, which lowers their morale to zero. Successfully clearing an area may grant rewards like supplies, which extend the battle’s timer, reveal hidden areas, or restore some of your health.

Before each stage, you can equip a new weapon and a mount. You can also select up to four generic officers to follow you into battle. Each officer has their own level, rank, and special abilities that can influence the outcome of the fight. The total level of your chosen officers cannot exceed your character’s “command stat.” For example, if your command stat is 30, you can bring in officers with a combined level of 30.

In combat, your goal is to defeat as many enemies as possible using a combination of regular and charge attacks. You can also unleash the series’ signature Musou attack. Stronger weapons unlock more powerful combo attacks. As you defeat enemies, you’ll gain experience and level up, but your character’s level resets after each battle. The experience you earn is converted into points, which are then used to upgrade your officers’ ranks. The game ends if you are defeated, run out of supplies, or if your main camp is captured. When you win, you’ll be rewarded with new officers, weapons, and mounts.

Completing the story mode unlocks additional playable characters, with more becoming available as you win specific battles.

Game Modes

Beyond the main Musou (Story) mode, the game offers a Freeway mode and a Multiplayer mode. The multiplayer feature supports up to four players via Ad Hoc and includes games like Bombs Away, Battle Royal, Time Attack, and Sudden Death.
