In this rhythm-based game, you take on the role of PaRappa, a rapping pug on a mission to impress his crush, Sunny Funny. To win her over, he must build his confidence by rapping his way through a series of challenges, including learning kung fu, passing a driving test, and cooking. The game’s main motto is simple: “I gotta believe!”
Gameplay
PaRappa the Rapper is all about music and rhythm. In each stage, a “teacher” raps a line, and you have to mimic them by pressing the corresponding buttons in time with the music. If you get it right, the music keeps flowing; mess up, and the music will start to get distorted, and the teacher will get annoyed. Too many mistakes, and you fail the stage.
To truly master the game, you need to go beyond just copying the teacher. By improvising during the gaps in the song, you can create your own freestyle raps. If your improvisation is good, the teacher will step aside, and you’ll get a chance to freestyle on your own.
This PSP version is a remastered release of the original PlayStation game. It features several updates, including a widescreen 16:9 display, sharper graphics, and multiplayer support for up to four players. You can also download new music remixes to your Memory Stick Duo via the internet.
