Chili Con Carnage is a Latin-themed action game for the PSP, and a re-imagined version of the PS2 game, Total Overdose. While it reuses many of the same characters and level designs, it abandons the original’s free-roaming, Grand Theft Auto-style gameplay for a more streamlined, mission-based format better suited for a handheld device. The game focuses on the most over-the-top, action-packed sequences, filled with bullet time and gravity-defying stunts.
The main story mode, El Gringo Loco, follows the revenge-fueled quest of Ramiro “Ram” Cruz. After witnessing his father’s murder—in a freak accident involving a combine harvester—Ramiro embarks on a gun-fueled rampage across Mexico.
In addition to the main story, the game features other modes:
- El Macho: A challenge-based single-player mode that consists of a series of distinct mini-games. This mode allows you to unlock various playable characters, each with their own unique gameplay style.
- Multiplayer: The game supports dynamic multiplayer through two modes:
- Hangman: A competitive mode for up to four players on a single console.
- Fiesta: A mode that can be played over a Wi-Fi connection.
The gameplay is intentionally unrealistic, with a wide variety of unusual weapons and a combo-based scoring system that rewards players for chaining together creative kills and stunts.
