LocoRoco: A Musical Adventure

LocoRoco is a unique and colorful 2D platforming game for the PSP. The game is set on a peaceful, vibrant planet inhabited by the happy, jelly-like LocoRoco and their friends, the Mui Mui. But this harmony is shattered when the evil Moja Troop invades from outer space, intent on capturing the LocoRoco. As the player, you don’t control the characters directly; instead, you take on the role of the planet itself, guiding the LocoRoco to safety.

Gameplay and Mechanics

The core of the gameplay involves tilting the world to make the LocoRoco roll and bounce through each level. This is done with the PSP’s shoulder buttons.

• Tilt: Pressing the L or R button tilts the world to the left or right, making the LocoRoco roll in that direction.
• Jump: Pressing both L and R buttons at the same time makes the LocoRoco jump.

A key mechanic of the game is the ability to change the LocoRoco’s size. By eating berries, a single LocoRoco can grow larger. You can then use the Circle button to split it into many smaller LocoRoco to fit through narrow passages. You can also merge them back together by holding the button down.

The game is spread across five worlds, each with eight levels. As you play, you can find hidden LocoRoco and special items. These items can be used to build and decorate a “Loco House” where your LocoRoco can play. The game’s whimsical music and cheerful characters are a central part of the experience, with the LocoRoco themselves singing along to the background music as you play.
