Gladiator Begins: The Fight for Freedom

Gladiator Begins is an action RPG that puts you in the role of a slave forced to fight for their life in the brutal arenas of ancient Rome. This game, considered a spiritual successor to Colosseum: Road to Freedom, focuses on a gladiator’s journey to earn enough money to buy their freedom.

Gameplay and Features

You start by creating a character and are immediately thrown into the life of a gladiator. The combat is in a third-person view and allows you to target different body parts of your enemies. You’ll need to use skills like dodging, parrying, and attacking at the right time to survive. As you win, you earn money and “Ability Points” that you can use to improve your character’s stats like vitality, endurance, and strength.

A unique feature is the ability to pick up and use any weapon or piece of armor that an enemy drops. You can even use these items to attack. The game also lets you mix and match five different fighting styles—Boxing, Wrestling, Kick Boxing, Tae Kwon Do, and Jeet Kune Do—to create your own unique moveset.

The game offers a lot of depth in its customization. You can upgrade weapons and armor to make them more powerful, even turning a basic item into your best weapon. There are multiple story paths and endings depending on which powerful Roman patron you choose to align with, adding to the game’s replayability.
