This latest chapter in the Grand Theft Auto saga marks a return to the iconic Liberty City, the very setting that defined the groundbreaking Grand Theft Auto III.
This time, the story rewinds to 1998, putting you in the worn-out shoes of Toni Cipriani, a low-level enforcer trying to claw his way back into the mob’s good graces. True to the series’ roots, you start from the bottom, carrying out dirty jobs and igniting violent turf wars with rival families to climb the criminal ladder.
While firmly set in the expansive Grand Theft Auto universe, where you’ll spot a few familiar faces from past games, the narrative stands firmly on its own. The story is a self-contained tale of ambition and betrayal, with only occasional nods to previous events.
All the classic open-world hallmarks return. When you need a break from the main storyline, you can take on a variety of side hustles—from delivering pizzas under the clock to working as a vigilante or a cab driver.
The PSP version also introduces full multiplayer mayhem. Up to six players can connect for classic modes like Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, and King of the Hill, turning the streets of Liberty City into their own personal battlefield.
