Set six years after the events of *Snake Eater*, the story finds Big Snake captured and imprisoned in a remote Colombian missile silo. His escape—aided by a fellow prisoner—kicks off a gripping new chapter filled with the series’ signature espionage and intrigue.
Fans will feel right at home with the gameplay. *Portable Ops* retains the core stealth-action mechanics of its console predecessors, including CQC (Close Quarters Combat), corner-peeking, and sneaking behind enemies. What sets it apart is its mission-based structure, perfectly tailored for handheld play. Levels are compact and can often be completed in just a few minutes, making it easy to jump in for a quick session.
The game’s most innovative feature is its recruitment system. Snake starts alone but can persuade enemy soldiers—guards, technicians, medics—to join his cause. Each recruit has unique skills: medics craft rations, spies gather intel and ammunition, and technicians develop new gear. These soldiers can be assigned to your active “Sneaking Unit” or placed in support roles back at base.
During missions, you control a team of four (always including Snake), though you directly command only one character at a time. Choosing the right soldier for the job is key—disguising yourself as an enemy guard can let you walk freely through compounds, while specialists can carry extra items or move unconscious bodies faster.
Multiplayer is also robust, supporting up to six players via WiFi in modes like Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, and Capture Mission. Whether sneaking solo or competing online, *Portable Ops* delivers a complete *Metal Gear* experience built for life on the go.
