Based on the iconic 80s TV series, Miami Vice: The Game drops players into the sun-soaked, neon-drenched underworld of Miami. You step into the roles of two undercover detectives from the Miami PD’s vice unit, Sonny Crockett and Ricardo Tubbs. Their mission: to dismantle the empire of a powerful South American drug lord named Sacrenegra, a criminal so elusive that the authorities have never been able to formally connect him to his illegal operations.
The game is a straightforward third-person shooter built on a cycle of intense infiltration. Each stage tasks you with storming a location, eliminating enemy forces, seizing contraband, and completing secondary objectives. Progress is linear, locking you into each mission until it’s completed. Beating a level unlocks advanced stages bearing the names of the show’s characters, though these offer new gear rather than a significant spike in difficulty, serving more as a means to power up your operatives.
A unique and gritty layer of gameplay involves the drug trade itself. You can buy and sell narcotics on the black market to turn a profit. This cash is essential for purchasing advanced weaponry, body armor, and new equipment, all of which boost your standing on the department’s performance rankings.
Scattered throughout missions are FlashRAM drives containing encrypted data. Recovering these is crucial; they not only unlock new weapon upgrades but, most importantly, they decrypt the exact locations of key drug bosses. This intelligence is vital for planning your assaults and completing your ultimate objective: taking down Sacrenegra for good.
