ModNation Racers: The Ultimate “Play, Create, Share” Kart Racer

ModNation Racers combines the fun of a kart racing game with a powerful set of creative tools, similar to LittleBigPlanet. The game’s story follows an aspiring racer named T.A.G. as he works his way up the ranks of the ModNation Racing Championship (M.R.C.) with the help of his mom and his crew chief. Along the way, he faces off against a colorful cast of rivals.

Gameplay and Weapons

The racing action is fast-paced, with an emphasis on drifting to fill your boost meter. This meter can be used for a quick burst of speed or as a shield to protect you from attacks. On the track, you’ll find item pods that give you various weapons like rockets, sonic blasts, and lightning bolts. Each weapon can be powered up to three levels by collecting more pods. A Level 1 rocket is a simple straight shot, but a Level 3 “Hydra” launches a barrage of missiles that rain down on the track.

Creation and Sharing

The heart of ModNation Racers is its “Play, Create, Share” system.

• Mod and Kart Creation: In the ModSpot, the game’s central hub, you can customize your racer (a “Mod”) and your kart with an incredible number of options. You can unlock more parts by winning races, completing specific objectives, or using a vending machine where you can spend tokens found on each track.
• Track Creation: The game’s track editor is a powerful tool that lets you design your own courses. You can easily mold the terrain, add water and mountains, and fill the track with props, jumps, and traps. The game can even auto-populate the track with items and scenery.

You can then share your creations—racers, karts, and tracks—with other players around the world through the Share Center. The ModSpot also lets you check out the top-rated creations of the week and race against friends on either official tracks or user-created ones.
