Tomb Raider: Legend marks the seventh major installment in the series and a fresh start, developed by Crystal Dynamics with the help of Toby Gard—Lara Croft’s original creator.
This time, Lara is on the trail of a powerful South American relic, but her mission is complicated by the sudden return of Amanda Evert, a rogue anthropologist Lara once thought dead. Now allied with the sinister James Rutland Jr., Amanda is after the same artifact, forcing Lara into a high-stakes global chase. The story delves into Lara’s past through flashbacks, revealing the tragic loss of her mother and the burden that drives her, all while she travels to stunning locations like the Himalayas, Ghana, Kazakhstan, and Japan—including a return to her iconic treasure-filled mansion.
Gameplay retains the classic third-person exploration and puzzle-solving but gives Lara more fluid movement than ever. She can sprint, climb, swim, swing on zip lines, and perform acrobatic maneuvers like flips and somersaults with newfound freedom. New tools like a magnetic grappling hook (which can yank enemies right off their feet), binoculars, flares, and a high-tech headset for communicating with her support team add depth to both traversal and combat.
While enemies are fewer, they’re fierce—ranging from armed mercenaries to wild animals. Combat keeps the auto-aim system but introduces slick close-quarters attacks, bullet-time dodges, and environmental interactions. Lara starts with her classic dual pistols but can also collect shotguns, submachine guns, and even grenades. The adventure blends indoor tombs with outdoor exploration and includes thrilling vehicle segments, like motorcycle and jeep chases.
The PSP version includes the complete single-player campaign plus a multiplayer “Tomb Trials” mode, where you can race against a friend or compete in timed artifact hunts.
