The story picks up years later when Andy, now grown up, is heading off to college. Having outgrown his toys, he almost throws them away. In a desperate attempt to get his attention, the toys use a cell phone, but the plan backfires. Andy decides to take only Woody to college with him and packs the rest away for the trash. The group barely escapes to the garage, where Buzz leads them to what they believe is a paradise for toys: Sunnyside Daycare.
After a series of misadventures—including Woody getting lost, being rescued by a little girl named Bonnie, and the entire group nearly meeting a fiery end in an incinerator—the toys make a daring escape and return to Andy’s house. In a heartfelt final act, Woody decides their future lies with Bonnie. He changes the writing on the box they’re in, ensuring they are delivered to her, where they can once again be loved and played with.
If you grew up with *Toy Story*, this game feels like a warm hug of nostalgia. It leverages our deep connection to these characters right from the start. Each toy controls uniquely: Woody uses his pull-string to swing across gaps, Buzz’s strength lets him throw enemies a great distance, and Jessie’s agility allows her to nimbly traverse tricky platforms.
The game offers two primary ways to play. The first is a Story Mode that faithfully follows the film’s plot across nine levels, which can be completed in an afternoon. The real meat of the game, however, is the Toy Box Mode. This is a vibrant, open-world adventure where you can accept quests from various characters and freely customize your own town, offering hours of creative fun long after the story ends.
