WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2008: A New Era of Wrestling

WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2008 brought several new features to the wrestling game series. It’s the first game to include the ECW brand, adding new wrestlers like The Sandman, Marcus Cor Von, and CM Punk.

Gameplay Changes

The game introduces a new Struggle Submission System that gives players more control with the analog sticks. There are also more weapons, including guitars, and a new Superstar Fighting Style system. Each wrestler now has a primary and secondary fighting style from a list of eight, such as Showman, Powerhouse, and High-Flyer. This gives each character a unique set of moves and abilities.

The game also features new arenas, like those from Wrestlemania 23 and Summerslam, and a roster of legendary wrestlers like The Undertaker and Ric Flair. The character list can be different depending on the console version you play.

New Game Modes

The classic Season and General Manager modes have been combined into a new WWE 24/7 Mode on the PlayStation and Xbox 360. This mode lets you create a new superstar, play as an existing one, or manage a brand. It’s called Main Event mode on the Wii, but it doesn’t include the management features.

A new Tournament mode lets you compete in different wrestling tournaments. The game also includes a wide variety of match types, from Iron Man to Hell in a Cell.

Platform-Specific Features

  • Wii Version: This version has a different set of match types and a more limited roster of moves. However, it uses the Wii’s motion controls for some attacks and has “Mii integration” in the menus.
  • Xbox 360 & PS3 Versions: These are the only versions that support online multiplayer. The Xbox 360 allows you to use your own music for wrestler entrances, while the PS3 lets you view the entrances in a first-person perspective.
