In Ys Seven, the latest installment in the long-running series, the adventurous Adol Christin and his companion Dogi arrive in the kingdom of Altago. After being mistaken for rebels and arrested, Adol’s heroic reputation earns them a royal pardon and a new quest: to investigate strange happenings and save the kingdom.

Gameplay and Combat

Ys Seven changes up the series’ traditional gameplay by introducing a party-based system. You can now have a team of up to three characters, with you controlling one while the others are managed by AI. Each character has unique skills and a specific weapon type (slash, strike, or pierce) that is effective against certain enemies. You can switch between characters at any time, which is essential for defeating enemies efficiently.

As you win battles, you earn experience and skill points. You can also gain new skills by using specific weapons; once you’ve used a skill enough, you can use it with any weapon. The game also features a unique “Flash Guard” mechanic where you can perfectly block an attack to make your next attack a critical hit.

While the game is an exciting action RPG, some players feel that the difficulty is too low, even on the hardest setting. The combat, while fast-paced, can feel repetitive.

Story and Reception

The game’s plot, which involves a quest to awaken five dragons to save the world, has received mixed reviews. Some players find the story to be too generic and not as compelling as other entries in the series, while others appreciate its straightforward and focused narrative.
