Dino Crisis 2: An Action-Packed Sequel

Dino Crisis 2, a 2000 action-adventure game from Capcom, is a departure from the survival horror style of its predecessor. This time, the focus is on fast-paced, action-oriented combat against a wider variety of dinosaurs. The story takes place a year after the first game, where an entire research facility and a military base have been teleported to a prehistoric era, and you are part of a rescue team sent to retrieve survivors and data.

You play as both Dylan Morton and Regina (from the first game).

Gameplay and Features

The game shifts to a more arcade-style experience. The fixed camera angles are still present, but the combat is much more dynamic and fluid.

  • Weapons: You have access to a wide array of primary weapons, including rifles, flamethrowers, and shotguns, as well as secondary weapons like knives, smoke bombs, and grenades.
  • Extinction Points: A new system in the game rewards you for defeating dinosaurs. You gain Extinction Points (EP) for each dinosaur you kill, and you get bonuses for killing them in a stylish way. These points act as the game’s currency, which you can use at special terminals to buy new weapons, upgrades, and health items.
  • Destructible Environments: The game also features destructible environments, and you can destroy buildings and other objects to gain more bonus points.
  • Survival Mode: After completing the main story, you can unlock a Survival Mode, which offers a different set of challenges and unique battles.
  • Playable Characters: You will play as both Dylan, who has a focus on heavy weapons, and Regina, who is faster and uses more tactical weapons. This adds variety to the gameplay and story.
  • Visuals: The game was also praised for its cinematic quality, with detailed character models and environments, and a more vibrant color palette than the first game.
