Monster Hunter Freedom on PSP lets players embark on a thrilling journey to hunt colossal creatures, craft new weapons, and battle alongside friends in epic action-packed quests.
This version of Monster Hunter is an enhanced port of Monster Hunter G—an updated re-release of the original game, previously exclusive to Japan. Think of it as an expanded “director’s cut” rather than a simple sequel. While it retains the core experience of the PlayStation 2 original, it introduces a wealth of new content, including additional quests, monsters, weapons, armor sets, and explorable regions.
A major addition is your personal farm on the outskirts of town. Here, you can maintain a garden, mine for ore, fish, and catch insects—all without embarking on a formal mission. This makes resource gathering far less tedious, though you’ll still need to collect materials out in the field. The training school offers another layer of depth, presenting structured hunts with fixed gear and time limits that test your skills under specific conditions.
End-game players will find even greater challenges, including powerful new monsters—some are fresh creations, like a battle-scarred wyvern brimming with aggression, while others are color variants that yield new armor designs. These additions significantly extend the game’s replay value.
Controls have been thoughtfully adapted for the PSP. Despite the lack of a second analog stick, attacks are smoothly executed using face buttons, while the right shoulder button handles blocking or charging attacks, depending on your weapon. Multiplayer is restricted to local Ad-Hoc mode, so you’ll need friends nearby for cooperative hunts.
