PaRappa the Rapper: A Hip-Hop Journey
PaRappa the Rapper is a classic rhythm game where you play as PaRappa, a rapping dog trying to win the heart of his crush, Sunny Funny. To build his confidence and impress her, he must learn to rap his way through different life challenges, like learning Kung Fu, taking a driving test, and cooking. The game’s mantra is “I gotta believe!”
Gameplay
The gameplay is a “Simon Says” style music game. In each stage, a “teacher” will rap a line, and you have to mimic them by pressing the correct buttons in time with the music. If you perform well, you’ll move up to a “Good” ranking. If you mess up, the music will start to sound off, and you’ll drop down in rank. If you fail too many times, it’s game over.
To get the highest rank, “Cool,” you have to go beyond just mimicking the teacher. By listening to the song’s rhythm, you can freestyle and improvise during the gaps. If you do this well enough, the teacher will leave the stage, and you can freely improvise to rack up a high score.
PSP Remake
The PSP version is a remake of the original PlayStation game with several new features. It’s been updated with a widescreen display and crisper graphics. New features include:
- Game Sharing: You can wirelessly share a demo level with other PSP players.
- Multiplayer: Up to four players can compete against each other in wireless head-to-head rap battles.
- Remix Songs: You can download new remixed versions of the game’s songs onto your Memory Stick Duo.
