Dino Crisis: The Dinosaur-Filled Horror

Dino Crisis, released by Capcom in 1999 for the PlayStation, is a survival horror game that trades zombies for dinosaurs. You play as Regina, a member of a special forces team sent to a remote island to investigate a secret research facility. Upon arrival, the team discovers that the island and the facility are overrun with ferocious dinosaurs.

Your mission is to find the missing scientist who was working there, uncover the secrets of the island, and, most importantly, escape with your life.

Gameplay and Features

The game uses a similar formula to Capcom’s Resident Evil series but with a focus on more aggressive and faster-moving enemies.

  • Movement and Exploration: You can control Regina to walk, run, push objects to solve puzzles, and climb on things. The game uses fixed camera angles, adding to the tension as you don’t know what’s around the corner.
  • Saving and Progression: The game’s save points are strategically placed throughout the facility. You save your progress at these points, and they often mark a transition to the next area.
  • Puzzles and Tools: To progress, you’ll have to solve a variety of puzzles. Some locked doors require you to find “digital locking discs” and enter a code to unlock them. The game also features a laser beam system that can be activated to protect you from dinosaurs.
  • Dinosaurs: Unlike the zombies in Resident Evil, the dinosaurs are much faster and more intelligent. They will chase you through rooms, and you’ll have to use your wits and limited resources to survive. You can use different types of ammunition, including tranquilizers to temporarily stun them, or more powerful rounds to take them down.
  • Map System: The game has a map system that helps you navigate the complex facility, showing your location, key points of interest, and the status of locked doors.
