Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity is the second installment in the Sonic Riders racing game series, set in the Sonic universe and introducing new gravity-manipulation mechanics to hoverboard racing.

Plot and Premise

  • The Conflict: The story begins when four unexplained meteorites collide with Earth, accidentally activating MeteorTech robots worldwide, which then go on a rampage in pursuit of the meteorites.
  • The Mission: Team Sonic is tasked with unraveling the enigma surrounding MeteorTech and determining the robots’ motivations.

New Gameplay Mechanics

The game introduces new powers based on gravity, earned by accomplishing challenges and performing feats to gain “gravity points”:

  • Gravity Dive: An ability that creates a black hole, drawing the player in and granting quicker speed and control over gravity. This allows players to find alternate passageways through walls and other surfaces by manipulating gravity.
  • Gravity Drift: This move allows characters to execute tight turns on corners, similar to the “Grip” move in the previous game.

Content and Modes

  • Roster & Classes: The game features eighteen playable characters (most of which must be unlocked), separated into three categories: Speed, Flight, and Power. Each class has specialized equipment to utilize different and faster routes.
  • Courses: There are sixteen different courses, each with two tracks.
  • Vehicles: The race course features various vehicles (hoverboards, bicycles, air riders, yachts, air skates, etc.) that can be updated anytime, even during the race.
  • New Game Modes: Three new competitive game modes are included:
    • Survival Mode: Smash into opponents on specific areas of a track.
    • Survival Relay: Relay courses involving multiple players.
    • Survival Ball: A football (soccer) game.
